“Bit of a worry” – Slight Ante Crnac concern raised as Norwich City pursue signing

The ‘Terrace Talk’ series from Football League World features the views of our FLW Fan Pundits on a variety of topics, including teams, players, managers, potential signings, breaking news, and more.

Ante Crnac, a forward for Raków Częstochowa, is reportedly close to joining Norwich City this summer, giving them another attacking star to add to their roster.

Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sports claims as much, while Weszlo, a Polish publication, claims that the Ekstraliga team has accepted a €10 million bid for the winger.

Crnac can play both centrally and on the wings, and he might provide Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team with some more firepower in the Championship this year as they aim to improve on their sixth-place result from the previous year.

Football League World spoke with City supporter Zeke Downes to get his opinions on his team’s efforts to recruit the Croatian striker, as the Canaries prepare to spend big money to acquire the 20-year-old.

Concern over the Ante Crnac price tag as Norwich City invests in youth

Since a lot of high-profile recruits for Norwich have failed to live up to the hype in recent seasons, there will be high expectations for Crnac, especially with a reputed €10 million bid on the table.

After the striker’s big-money transfer from Sporting Lisbon in 2013, you only need to mutter the name Ricky van Wolfswinkel around the banks of the River Wensum to make a City supporter tremble. A more recent big-money transfer that didn’t work out is Christos Tzolis.

Notwithstanding such worries, Downes is confident that the City recruitment staff will make the right choice in bringing in Crnac, as the young player appears to have a lot of potential after scoring eight goals in Poland during the previous season.

The City supporter expressed his excitement over Ante Crnac, but he also expressed concern about the player’s expensive transfer fee, which he believes will be among the biggest ever for a player he has never heard of.

“I trust Ben Knapper, so I’m not too concerned; I believe they’ve given him a thorough evaluation and determined that he’ll fit the new style of play, which is exactly what we need.
